Birth Support Specialist - Part-Time

Position Title: Birth Support Specialist

Position Location: Denver Center for Birth and Wellness

Summary: We are seeking an experienced and passionate birth professional to be on-call 2-4 weekends per month to provide labor support to birth center clients in-home, hospital and birth center through an on-call program as part of a duo team. This professional will also support birth center operations via birth assisting and general team support where needed. The birth support packages being offered to the client as a part of this program are:

Extended Birth Support: Joining the family at their home for support during active labor, transitioning to birth center through two hours postpartum

Basic Birth Support: Joining the family at the birth center for support through two hours postpartum

Sibling Support:  Joining the sibling(s) at the birth center to support during labor through two hours postpartum

Transfer Support: Joining the family at the hospital once a transfer has occurred through two hours postpartum

Essential Duties and Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Provide physical, educational and emotional support to birth center families in the home, birth center or hospital after transfer

  • Utilize expertise to provide comfort techniques and optimal fetal positioning techniques with an emphasis on providing support using hypnosis techniques for labor

  • Attend monthly doula/client Meet and Greets

  • Attend monthly staff meetings

  • On-call 2-4 weekends/month and occasional evenings

  • Assist midwife and nurse and participate in cleaning/housekeeping duties at the birth center postpartum, as needed or appropriate

Special Skills/Licenses/Training/Certifications Necessary:

  • Certified as a Birth/Labor Doula or maintains a professional certification or license related to women’s health

  • Holds current BLS

  • NRP trained or willing to obtain

  • Birth professionals applying cannot have a conflicting on-call schedule privately or elsewhere

  • Agreeable to travel to client homes with own transportation, proof of insurance, valid driver's license and background check

The Ideal Candidate:

  • At least 5 years experience working directly with families in a birth support role providing client support during active labor, birth, and postpartum periods

  • Extensive knowledge of comfort techniques that can be safely used in labor such as positioning, rebozo, massage, hypnosis, breathing, counter pressure, relaxation etc.


  • Part-time, hourly pay dependent on experience

  • Additional per-diem earnings based on support level selected by client

  • Future opportunities possible based on program growth and individual motivation

  • Mileage reimbursement for residential assignments
